Getting to the Value in Volunteering

You have limited resources; your time, your skills, your connections, and your funds.  You want to know that your resource investment will be effective for your organization and worthwhile for you.  So how can you find out BEFORE you say “yes” to volunteering or making a gift?

This three hour workshop outlines relationship expectations between volunteers, donors, and organizations, overviews public information available to you RIGHT NOW about organizations that showcases their effectiveness (or lack of), and establishes guidelines to help you find the “right non-profit fit” for your expectations of your volunteer service or donation.

During this program you will learn how to:

 

  • Build a ‘portfolio” of not-for-profits around your expected outcomes
  • Find out about an organization’s culture before saying “yes”
  • Read a 990 “between the lines” to find effectiveness, impact, and business opportunities
  • Network effectively within the organization to reach your desired contacts
  • Disengage from an organization that is not meeting your needs without burning your bridges

 

Using the skills learned in Getting to the Value in Volunteering you will greatly increase your impact with not-for-profits you support and significantly reduce frustration from involvement mismatches.  Your resources are precious!  Invest them wisely.
